AVIXA and Diversified have launched an online training course focused on the convergence of broadcast and professional AV. Called Broadcast AV: Glass-to-Glass, the course follows the workflow from the camera lens that captures content through to the display viewed by the audience.

AVIXA developed the program with subject-matter expertise from across the broadcast and AV industries. Its stated purpose is to help professionals plan, operate and support systems that combine broadcast and pro AV technologies in day-to-day environments. The course is aimed at established professionals in both fields, as well as people entering integrated media operations.

A framework for integrated media systems

The training addresses the principal stages involved in broadcast and professional AV, along with the people, technologies and processes that connect those stages. It also focuses on communication between teams and on decision-making within environments where broadcast production and AV system delivery increasingly overlap.

AVIXA vice president of content creation Pam Taggart said the course reflects the organization’s response to that intersection between disciplines.

“The convergence of broadcast and pro AV is reshaping our industry, and this course provides professionals with an understanding of how broadcast operates in today’s AV environment. As organizations discover a need for interdisciplinary professionals, our course is a reflection of our commitment to prepare professionals to operate and support today’s industry.”

Diversified contributed experience from its work designing and delivering broadcast and AV systems. Nathan Volchko, the company’s director of intake and bid desk, said the distinction between the two fields has narrowed across several types of facilities.

“The line between broadcast and pro AV has all but disappeared. The same expectations for reliability, timing and quality now apply in a corporate studio, a house of worship or an arena as they do in a network control room. Diversified is proud to bring our experience designing and delivering these systems to create this training.”

Course audience and access

AVIXA describes the course as a resource for professionals who need to work across integrated media environments. The intended audience includes:

  • Professional AV professionals
  • Broadcast professionals
  • People entering integrated media environments

The course is designed to provide a shared framework for teams involved in content capture, production, system operation and presentation. AVIXA is offering a free preview of the opening portion of Broadcast AV: Glass-to-Glass, while access to the full online course is also available through AVIXA’s online platform.
