USI has announced a roadmap for a Wi-Fi 8 System-in-Package (SiP) module, targeting a product launch in the first quarter of 2027. The company positioned the planned platform around more consistent wireless performance and lower integration demands rather than a simple increase in peak throughput.
The announcement identifies Wi-Fi 8 as IEEE 802.11bn and describes the standard’s emphasis on Ultra-High Reliability (UHR). USI said the approach is intended to address wireless connections in products with tight physical and power constraints, including AI laptops, smart glasses, smart rings and true wireless stereo earbuds.
A reliability-focused roadmap
USI’s planned module is based on several groups of Wi-Fi 8 capabilities. The company said these features are designed to improve coordination among access points, use spectrum more efficiently and maintain connectivity when devices operate in difficult radio-frequency environments.
- Multi-AP Coordination: Coordinated Beamforming (Co-BF) and Coordinated Spatial Reuse (Co-SR)
- Dynamic Spectrum Optimization: Dynamic Sub-channel Operation (DSO)
- PHY enhancements: Distributed Resource Unit (DRU), Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Unequal Modulation (UEQM)
USI described the technology as a move away from treating maximum data rate as the sole measure of wireless progress. The company said the design goal is to help devices preserve stable, predictable connections while working within limits imposed by antenna space, battery capacity, thermal performance and power consumption.
“Wi-Fi 8 is about more than faster speeds. It is about enabling devices to maintain reliable, consistent, and predictable connections in complex …” — USI
SiP integration for device manufacturers
The company said its existing work on Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 SiP technology provides the foundation for its Wi-Fi 8 development. USI cited experience in SiP design, radio-frequency engineering, wireless-module integration, advanced packaging and high-volume manufacturing as part of that platform.
USI also linked the Wi-Fi 8 program to the growing integration of wireless components inside smaller connected products. The company said future designs may combine wireless integrated circuits, RF front-end components, antennas, power-management elements and advanced packaging more closely, with the aim of reducing product size and simplifying system design.
| Manufacturer | Platform | Key technologies identified | Planned availability | Channel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USI | Wi-Fi 8 SiP Module | IEEE 802.11bn, UHR, Multi-AP Coordination, DSO, DRU, ELR and UEQM | Product launch planned for the first quarter of 2027 | Customer and device-manufacturer integration |
The announcement is a roadmap and launch plan; it does not state that the module is shipping or available through custom-installation dealers. USI’s stated focus is on supplying technology for next-generation devices, including wearables and Internet of Things products, where wireless performance must be balanced with compact construction and limited power budgets.
