AT&T has integrated its Connected Life smart security system with Gemini for Home, adding AI-assisted video analysis, natural-language searches and activity summaries to the platform. The company said the integration makes Connected Life the “first” home security product to work with Google Home Premium.
AI tools reach monitored security customers
The new capabilities are available through AT&T’s professional $29.99-per-month Connected Life monitoring plan. Gemini for Home can provide more detailed descriptions of events recorded by a home’s security cameras, including identifying who delivered a package and the number of items left behind.
The system also supports natural-language searches across recorded footage. Examples provided for the service include questions such as “What dug up the yard last night?” and “Who let the dogs out?” Users can also review daily summaries covering activity inside and outside the home.
“first”
AT&T described Connected Life as the first home security product to integrate with Google Home Premium, according to the company’s announcement.
Connected Life adds proximity-based arming
Alongside the Gemini features, AT&T is adding automatic arming and disarming based on a user’s proximity to the home. That function extends the system beyond camera review and event reporting into an automated security action tied to the customer’s location.
- Video descriptions: Gemini for Home can describe events captured by Connected Life security cameras.
- Natural-language search: Customers can ask questions about recorded footage rather than manually reviewing clips.
- Activity summaries: The service can summarize events occurring in and around the home.
- Proximity automation: Connected Life can automatically arm or disarm based on proximity to the residence.
Google Home APIs provide the integration layer
AT&T launched Connected Life in December in partnership with Google and Abode. The latest update uses Google’s Gemini-powered Home APIs, which Google makes available to smart home brands and developers building AI-enabled functions into their products.
For security integrators and monitored-service providers, the announcement places camera search and event interpretation inside the service relationship rather than presenting them solely as standalone smart-home features. The extracted announcement identifies the functions as part of AT&T’s professional monitoring plan and does not describe them as a separate consumer hardware product.
AT&T’s move follows indications from ADT that it may also bring Gemini for Home features to its security systems. AT&T did not describe additional product availability, pricing tiers or compatibility beyond the Connected Life system and the $29.99-per-month professional plan identified in the announcement.
