Redwood Landscape and Lumin8 Outdoor Lighting have begun seasonal installation work for Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s, combining temporary holiday displays with permanent outdoor-lighting systems for residential customers. The work also includes a municipal installation for the City of Lowell’s Winterfest event.
Oliva Lukasik, outside design consultant at Redwood Landscape, said temporary holiday lighting generally remains in place for only part of the season, while permanent systems are intended to support multiple uses throughout the year. The installations described include spotlights, underglow lights, strip lights, rope lights and wall lights, in addition to stranded lighting.
“Holiday lighting includes mostly temporary Christmas lights. They’re beautiful, fun, festive, and nostalgic, but you only get to enjoy them for six to eight weeks.” — Oliva Lukasik, Redwood Landscape’s outside design consultant
Permanent systems add seasonal flexibility
Redwood Landscape uses Govee products for its long-term lighting work, according to Lukasik. Once installed, the systems can be adjusted through a phone app, allowing customers to change colors for different occasions rather than replacing the lighting after a single holiday period.
Most of the company’s customers place the permanent lighting along rooflines, although the systems can also be used on wreaths, mailboxes, trees and light posts. For a holiday display, customers can select red and green. The same installation can then be changed for New Year’s with a different color, such as light blue, according to Lukasik.
- Temporary lighting: Primarily used for seasonal Christmas displays and typically enjoyed for six to eight weeks.
- Permanent lighting: Includes spotlights, underglow lights, strip lights, rope lights and wall lights.
- Control: Govee lighting can be adjusted through an app after installation, including color changes for different seasons.
- Common locations: Rooflines, wreaths, mailboxes, trees and light posts.
Municipal project supports Lowell Winterfest
Although most Redwood Landscape customers are residential, Lumin8 also works with the City of Lowell Parks and Recreation department. The company is entering its third year of lighting the city’s Christmas tree for Winterfest.
The 2026 Lowell Winterfest is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, with a gingerbread theme. The event will also include the Parade of Lights. Redwood Landscape plans to pre-light a 20-foot green evergreen for the ceremony, extending the company’s work beyond private roofline and landscape installations into a public event environment.
| Project area | Details |
|---|---|
| Residential installations | Permanent and temporary outdoor lighting |
| Permanent lighting brand | Govee |
| Typical placement | Rooflines, wreaths, mailboxes, trees and light posts |
| Municipal project | 20-foot tree for Lowell Winterfest |
| 2026 event date | Saturday, December 5 |
The combination of app-adjustable color control and architectural placement gives the permanent installations a role beyond holiday decoration. In the projects described by Redwood Landscape, the same lighting infrastructure can be used for different seasonal color schemes while remaining integrated into the home’s exterior or landscape.
