Roku has introduced Roku Outcomes, a machine-learning platform designed to help marketers optimize streaming-TV campaigns around specific consumer actions rather than exposure alone. The launch adds performance-oriented tools to Roku’s premium advertising ecosystem, including Home Screen native experiences and in-stream video.
The platform is aimed at marketers that want to set campaign goals around outcomes such as app installations, first-time views, sign-ups, subscriptions and trials. Roku said its system connects advertising exposure with subsequent activity on the Roku platform, allowing its models to adjust bids and delivery while campaigns are running.
Two optimization paths
Roku Outcomes is divided into two functions. Roku Outcomes Amplify is intended to increase unique and incremental household reach while controlling advertising frequency. Marketers can define target audiences, reach objectives and frequency controls, including goals for reaching households outside an existing linear-TV or media plan.
Roku Outcomes Actions is designed for advertiser-defined conversions. Roku said the tool can optimize campaigns toward actions including app installs, first-time viewing sessions, sign-ups, subscriptions and trials. The company describes the arrangement as closed-loop measurement because the advertisement, app installation and first stream can occur within the same Roku environment.
| Platform | Primary function | Availability and channel |
|---|---|---|
| Roku Outcomes Amplify | Unique and incremental household reach, with frequency controls | Available across Roku’s premium advertising ecosystem |
| Roku Outcomes Actions | Optimization toward advertiser-defined conversions | Initially available for media and entertainment advertisers |
“Performance marketers want to know: Did it drive action and at what cost?” said James Kelm, vice president of products, advertising, media at Roku.
According to Roku, the platform’s machine-learning models use signals generated by advertising exposure, app installation and later viewing to adjust campaign delivery in real time. The company said this gives advertisers a way to establish a target cost per acquisition while using streaming-TV inventory.
Initial scope and planned expansion
Roku said Roku Outcomes Actions is initially available to media and entertainment advertisers. The company plans to add support for purchases, website visits and cart activity. Those functions are described as planned additions rather than capabilities available at launch.
- Roku Outcomes Amplify: reach expansion and frequency management.
- Roku Outcomes Actions: conversion optimization for defined consumer activities.
- Current placements: Roku Home Screen native experiences and in-stream video.
- Initial advertiser segment: media and entertainment.
For companies operating across connected-TV and streaming environments, the announcement places Roku’s operating system and advertising inventory together within a single measurement framework. The rollout is focused on campaign management and advertising delivery rather than a new Roku hardware product, with Roku positioning the platform as an extension of performance-marketing practices into premium TV inventory.
